What moves the price of removal and reinstall

Panel count moves the price most, because each panel is unbolted, unplugged, stored and reset. Roof pitch and height add safety equipment and time. Microinverters or optimizers under each panel add handling, and old racking may need new flashing or parts to meet current code.

Who does it matters. The original installer knows the system and may protect the workmanship warranty; a different company may require an inspection first, and some will not touch another company’s install.

If the original installer is gone, see when your installer is out of business. Storage on site for weeks during a reroof is sometimes extra.

Price by size and equipment

SystemWhat changes
String inverter, standard railsSimplest: panels and rails only
Microinverters or optimizersMore units to remove, test and reset
Tile or steep roofSlower, specialist flashing

  2. 2

  3. 3
    Coordinate with the roofer

Agree who owns leaks at the new penetrations.

Questions

How much does it cost to remove and reinstall solar panels?
$225/panel–$375/panel across 12 published sources retrieved October 21, 2026.
Does removing solar panels void the warranty?
It can, if the work is not done by the original installer or a company the manufacturer accepts. Ask both before the work.
How long does a detach and reset take?
Removal is usually a day for a typical home system and reinstall another, with the reroof in between; utility re-inspection can add time.
