Ground Mount Solar Cost: What You Will Pay in 2026

Prices retrieved October 21–22, 2026 · 8 dated sources listed, range held

The short answer

Ground Mount Solar Cost depends mainly on system size, the foundation your soil needs and the trench back to the house, and this page gives the installed range from dated, sourced quotes.

Across 8 published, dated sources retrieved October 21, 2026, the typical range is not published yet: we found 8 comparable sourced prices, short of our 12-price bar, and list them below before incentives.

No 30% federal credit applies to a system a homeowner buys: Section 25D ended for expenditures after December 31, 2025 (what changed).

Held for more evidence. Fewer than 12 dated, sourced prices were found for this page’s headline figure, so it is not offered to search engines yet. The sources we did find are listed below.

What moves the price of a ground mount

A ground array replaces roof attachments with its own structure: steel or aluminum racking on driven piles, helical screws or concrete footings. Soil and frost depth decide which, and rock can turn a simple pile job into drilling. That structure is why ground mounts usually cost more per watt than roof systems.

The trench is the second variable. Every foot between the array and the main panel is excavation, conduit and wire sized for the distance. Pole-mounted and tracking systems add more again, and buy more production per panel.

Ground mounts win where the roof is shaded, too small, facing the wrong way, or due for replacement (ground vs roof mount).

Price by size and equipment

VariableEffect
Driven piles in soft soilLowest foundation cost
Concrete footings or rockHigher: excavation, concrete, drilling
Long trench to the panelHigher: digging, conduit, larger wire
Single-axis trackerHigher cost, more yield per panel

How to check a quote

  1. 1
Ask how the foundation was chosen

A quote should name the foundation type and whether a soil or rock check was done.

  2. 2
Get the trench length in writing

And whether restoring the lawn or driveway is included.

  3. 3
    Check setbacks and permits

Zoning may set distances from property lines; confirm before design.

Questions

How much does a ground mount solar system cost?
not published yet: we found 7 comparable sourced prices, short of our 12-price bar, and list them below across 7 published sources retrieved October 21, 2026, before incentives.
Why does ground mount solar cost more than roof solar?
It needs its own structure and foundations, plus a trench to the house. A roof provides the structure for free.
Is a ground mount worth it?
Where the roof is shaded, small, poorly oriented or due for replacement, often yes: panels can face the ideal direction and are easy to clean and service.
